U-Haul Trucks Delivering Packages

If you’ve been ordering packages that may come through UPS or FedEx, don’t be alarmed when you see a U-Haul truck in your driveway. Across the nation the two delivery services have been renting out U-Haul trucks to help combat the shipping demand.

During the peak of the holiday season when people are ordering Christmas gifts and participating in sales like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the backup of getting orders out may cause delivery services to slow down.

In response, companies like UPS and FedEx rent out U-Haul trucks to help combat that problem. I spoke with general manager Michael Bennett of a U-Haul service here in Meridian about the matter.

“Peak season for UPS and FedEx was after Thanksgiving and before Christmas, so they would always rent during those time to supplement their flee because they had more delivers and had to hire more drivers but didn’t necessarily have enough trucks”

Along with the peak of holiday shopping, since COVID-19 more people shop online than in stores which also increases the demand for delivery services.

“Since COVID-19 hit, the peak season has been year-round so people may be seeing our U-Haul trucks pulling up in their driveway making deliveries", said Bennett. "Dropping the stuff off on the porch or car porch so it’ll happen a lot”

You can identify U-Haul trucks that are used to make delivers by the sign the company puts on the door letting you know who they work for.

“Normally they’ll have a sign on the door with FedEx or UPS signifying that it’s a vehicle being used for deliveries”

If you have been online shopping this holiday season, you could expect to see a U-Haul delivering your packages.
