As lawmakers continue to negotiate regarding a second coronavirus relief package, many people are wondering if that could possibly mean a second round of stimulus checks.

Currently, a proposed second COVID-19 relief bill has not yet been passed by congress, and both of the two proposed bills that are being discussed exclude information regarding the distribution of another round of $1,200 stimulus checks.
It has been more than seven months, since the first round of stimulus payments were initially distributed, and many people are hoping that a decision will be made this month, regarding the second round of stimulus checks.
Two local residents told Twin States News, that they believe a second round of stimulus checks would be beneficial for those who have been impacted financially due to the pandemic.
“I think there’s a lot of people that could use it, that are really struggling right now, with everything that’s going on. So, I feel like they should do something to help those people make it through,” said Victoria Lannan.
“People with children, that haven’t been able to work. You know, certain jobs you know a lot of jobs completely shut down –and you know, that’s wiping out a lot of people’s savings. So, after that, like they really don’t have anything to fall back on,” said Eric Bounds.
Both also shared that they hope the payout for the second round of stimulus checks will remain at $1,200, once a bill detailing it gets passed.
“I think anything could help, but they really need to think about, you know, these people. To help these people to get through, to push forward to this next year,” said Lannan.
“You know, its going to hurt them a bit, if it drops, you know if the price drops on it. So, its till, its going to be beneficial to them, but at the same time its still going to hurt them, because its not as much as the first one,” said Bounds.

The deadline to claim payments from the first round of stimulus checks with the IRS, was November 21, and U.S. lawmakers have not yet passed a bill regarding a second round of stimulus checks.
