Meridian, MS - Despite the rainy day in the City of Meridian, the United Way of East Mississippi organization was out collecting donations to get children ready to go back to school.
“Today is our annual “Stuff the Bus” event, we collect school supplies for children K – 4 in Lauderdale and Meridian Public School Districts, all the school supplies we get, or monetary donations goes to children in need to make sure they are able to start the first day of school with what they need.” says Emma Clark
For those who may have an issue weather, Summer Intern Emma Clark, encourages another way to donate to the cause. “If you have school supplies and don’t want to get out today in the rain, you can always drop by our united way office which is right off of North Hill Street.”
Speaking of donating to the cause, Miss Meridian: Lydia Bishop enjoyed giving back and helping in her community. “As someone who comes from a rural area, school supplies are so important. I know I remember teachers growing up, going out and spending their own money, and so for people to, out of the goodness of their heart give to these children it’s so amazing.”
Emma Clark says donations are not just limited to supplies. “We take new or gently used school uniforms, any school supplies that you want to bring, or monetary donations because we can purchase school supplies in bulk with that.”
