Today in Meridian, the city held a press conference to update residents on upcoming events and the curfew that was scheduled to expire on June 14.
The city announced their plans to reschedule Juneteenth and July 4th celebrations, hoping to announce dates for both celebrations at a later date. The celebrations have been rescheduled due to potential health risks still presented during the pandemic. The curfew will now be extended on a weekly basis until further notice, and for residents 18 and older, the curfew now begins at 11pm, and this new change will go into effect on Saturday, June 13.

“If you’re less than 18 years old, the curfew remains at 9 o’clock. So, we think that’s going to help our businesses, the ones that are staying open past 10 o’clock, and it will give them more opportunity to grow their businesses that way”, said Eddie Kelly, CAO of Meridian.
If found violating the curfew, a warning will be issued for the first violation, but the second violation will result in a citation and a fine of $25.
