Veteran's Day Celebration at East Mississippi Community College

csims121

Scooba, MS - Students, teachers, and former Veterans all joined EMCC’s Baptist Student Union at the Chapel in the Pines for a Veterans Day service.

College President, Scott Alsobrooks, tells Twin States News about the celebration.

“We bring in a guest speaker that’s a Veteran. Our students get involved, our choir gets involved. We sing some of the storied United States Military based tunes, and the tunes associated with each branch of the Military.”

Guest speaker and former President of EMCC’s Baptist Student Union, James Ruffin, expressed his gratitude for all of our Veterans.

“We love our veterans, and we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them. Many have given their lives, I've had relatives who are veterans, some of them passed away, and some were killed in battle. We really owe a lot to Veterans, our freedom.”

A few student ambassadors tell twin States why they showed up to this event today.

“It’s great just to be able to hear, and just be able to fellowship, and just be able to help serve these veterans today just for how they have served us,” said Cooper Sanders.

Aiden Fancher said, “We’re here for them, really just want to let them know how much we appreciate it and we are here to do anything and everything to help them today.”
