Meridian, MS - Walk With a Doc took place on Saturday morning at Bonita Lakes in Meridian.
Emergency Physician, Linus Martin, was on hand giving advice on signs of suicide and Suicide Prevention.
“It’s exceedingly difficult to predict who is actually going to go through with a suicide attempt. People are talking about being hopeless, they’re not interested in their usual activities. Sometimes people start giving away things, they start visiting people like as a last visit.”
Founder of Suicide Prevention Awareness, Rhonda Blanks talks about why she brought this organization to Meridian.
“We have nothing here in this community to help with ideation of suicide or any help for survivors that have lost someone to suicide.”
With suicide being so difficult to predict, Dr. Martin wanted to share his thoughts with anyone who feels guilty after losing a loved one to suicide.
“There is a lot of guilt, a lot of second-guessing, a lot of questioning, a lot of psychological burden. The bottom line is you just can't tell all the time. As much as we’d like to.”
For anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts, or if you know someone who is, dial 9-8-8 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
