A local community center is accepting buckets filled with supplies, that will serve as clean up kits for those who have been impacted by natural disasters, such as the recent hurricanes that have impacted the Gulf Coast.

The Wesley House Community Center is currently serving as a drop off location for disaster recovery buckets for the United Methodist Committee On Relief.
Through a partnership with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), The Wesley House Community Center is now allowing local community members to drop off buckets packed tight with cleaning supplies like gloves, sponges, liquid household cleaners, and more. All of the supplies in the buckets are to be sent to a location either locally or around the world, that has been severely impacted by a natural disaster, to help individuals residing in those areas safely clean up the damage left behind.
“It’s so essential, especially in our area in providing relief for folks that have been through the hurricanes most recently, for folks that have been through tornadoes, and so in in forking with UMCOR – of course we’ve worked on some local recovery here, form the 2018 tornado, but as a results, we’re also working with them being a drop off site for the flood buckets they distribute throughout the world,” said Rev. David Schultz, Executive Director at Wesley House Community Center.
He also shared that he is thankful for the partnership with UMCOR, as it allows local community members to assist others in need throughout the world.
“It’s people helping people, it’s a part of the community center that we are of the community – try to help one another, and sometimes that’s our little community here in the east end of Meridian, or it’s the community of Lauderdale, or it this whole community of east Mississippi, or the state –or this world in which we live,” said Schultz.

For those who are interested in dropping off a disaster recovery bucket for UMCOR, the Wesley House Community Center is accepting buckets Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm .
