Kicking off Thanksgiving week, the Wesley House Community Center began their day handing out six hundred bags filled with items to make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Twin States News was there.

Every year the Wesley House Community Center prepares holiday bags for people in the community. This year they have packed over 500 hundred bags. The bags are filled with food items that make up the special thanksgiving meal, they even have some turkeys and hens to give away this year.
People who signed up to receive the meal were happy and grateful for the work the Wesley House and the community put in to make it possible.
“I feel good about it, I’m just glad that we're able to help”, said Christina Russell
“Well, I thank God. I think it's a good idea to reach out to the community and show people the love of Jesus”, said Rodney Burwell. “That’s what it's all about, giving. It’s better to give than to receive.”

The community played a huge part in the success of the holiday bags. Volunteers have been visiting the center for the last week to help pack and sort the food.
“It's a wonderful experience to come here, it’s also a lot of fun to know that I’m packing something for people who are less fortunate. For people who will get to have dinner for thanksgiving because that just warms my heart”, stated Lamar Highschool student Nyla Ahmed.

Executive Director of the Wesley House, David Schultz, says donations and volunteers from the community are what made the day possible.
“It’s exciting to be in this place where so many have provided in so many ways. Thank you for those who have donated, thank you for those who have volunteered in packing bags and sorting food, and distributing the product for those who are in need. That’s the cool thing to see the community come together for those who are in need.”-David Schultz
Before the day is over the Wesley House will have provided 600 hundred Thanksgiving meals for people in the community.
