Meridian, MS - A High School Student in Lauderdale County School District has earned an elite national honor. West Lauderdale Highs Senior Brayden Alford is now a 2023 National Merit Semifinalist.
Brayden joins a team of academically talented high school seniors from around the country, with an opportunity to compete for more than 7,200 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million.
“I am ecstatic to say the least, really I can’t put it into words, I was so happy to get the news and I know this will help a lot with getting in college, getting scholarships and things like that.” says Brayden.
About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will go on to win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title.
The scholarship awards will be announced in the Spring of 2024.
