The West Lauderdale Middle School’s PTO is now holding a community shoe drive now through December 4th. The collection of used and new shoes will be shipped to a company and from there sent to countries that are in poverty. The goal is to collect 2,500 pairs of shoes.
“The PTO actually earned money for them(shoes). For instance, if we get 2,500 pairs, we will earn $1,000 for the West Lauderdale PTO,” said PTO President Christina Woodall. “In turn, we’ll be able to buy the electronics and technology needed for the students here on campus. I actually had a lady who donated 78 pairs of brand new shoes. She went to all these different places and found them on clearance. She spent 50 cents to $1 on shoes.”
The PTO has not yet reached their goal, but are asking the help of the community to get the word out. Drop off locations are at West Lauderdale Middle School as well as the elementary school.
