What age should kids get their first cell phone?

csims121

Meridian, MS - Santa is coming soon, and his bag is full of all kinds of toys and gadgets, especially cell phones.

With half of the ten-year-olds having phones already, some parents are still hesitant to get their children a mobile device.

If you find yourself questioning if your child is ready for that responsibility, AT&T has a way to help parents make that choice.

“First of all make sure that they are ready for a device. We do have a simple quiz, ten questions, that the parents can take to determine if the customer is ready for their own device,” said AT&T Retail Store Manager, Endia Lyons.

Ms. Lyons also expresses that parents are definitely getting phones for their kids at a younger age.

She also mentions that if any kids aren’t ready to have a phone, they usually get a different device.

“If they are not coming in to see about new services, they are in trying to see if they can get them a tablet.”

Twin States talked to a few parents who have younger children to get their opinions on the topic.

“The reason I think they should not have a phone younger than 12 is because of all of the content they are able to access with no problem,” says, Dylan Agent.

Another father, Justin Kelly sais “I’ve got an 11-year-old, I’ve got an 8-year-old, 7-year-old, and 3-year-old. I just felt like it was a good time to get my 11-year-old a phone because she can keep in touch with me. They can learn stuff and play games. Stuff like that.”
