Meridian Public School District has now become one of only three districts in the state to receive the “Gear Up” grant. The grant promotes high school students to graduate and go on to a university. Once the student enrolls in college, they will receive a $3,500 scholarship towards their first year.

The Meridian Highschool Wildcats have been celebrating the grant this week by involving students in “Gear up” activities. Today students signed their class banner committing to graduate on time. The school is also encouraging students to participate in the hashtag, #catscareaboutcollege, for a chance to win a spot in a 360 camera booth that will be a feature at this Friday’s football game.

College and Career counselor Tiffany Roberts is excited about the grant and believes that it will help students long term.
“We will have the grant through the class of 2025 and these students will get the extra opportunity for the ACT, ACT prep, college application, college tours. All things to get their mind on college and careers once they’ve completed high school”, stated Roberts.
The Wildcats are hoping that this program pushes students to further their education.
