Wishlists of families serviced at Care Lodge to be fulfilled for the holiday season

A local domestic violence shelter is inviting members of the community to help give families at the shelter have a happy holiday, by fulfilling their holiday wishlists.

Each year during the holiday season, Care Lodge provides the families they serve with holiday wish lists for parents and children to fill out, and see how they can meet their needs for the holidays, whether it be clothes, toys, or food, and allow for community members to buy gifts to fulfill these wishlists.

“This is a chance for us to be able to pour into them in every special way, and them know that Santa still cares, and their community cares, because unique at care lodge, we not only help the children but we help the parents as well. so when people come in to request assistant for Christmas, and make sure that Sant knows where they’re going to be staying this year, it’s really exciting for us, because we get to meet one on one with each family to see what their needs are and see what their wishes are,” said Sara Smith, Community Engagement Director at Care Lodge.

She also shared that they estimate around 100 families, which could mean needing hundreds of wishlists, for both parents and children, to be fulfilled.

“I can’t anticipate how many people we’re going to be helping or how many people will apply for Christmas assistance. We just know that 2020’s been a very different year for a lot of families in our community, and so we’re definitely working as hard as we can with our supporters to make sure when needs are brought to our attention, that we do the best that we can to meet those needs, and if it’s something that we can’t do, then we work with our community partners to make sure that family is served in the best way possible,” said Smith. For those who plan to fulfill a Christmas wishlist of the families served at Care Lodge , all gifts are to be dropped off unwrapped by December 11.
