IN MOST POLLS, MISSISSIPPI IS RANKED HIGH WHEN IT COMES TO GIVING TO OTHERS, AND OTHER CHARITABLE WORKS.
BUT THIS YEAR, WITH INFLATION, ORGANIZATIONS MAY NEED MORE DONATIONS THAN EVER. TWIN STATES NEWS DANNY TODD SPEAKS WITH A LOCAL WOMEN’S CLINIC TO SEE HOW YOU COULD HELP THEM GIVE BACK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.
Dr. Nelson's employees tell us that she is one of the most charitable persons they know. They say she goes out of her way to make sure that everyone she comes in contact with is taken care of. This may bring no surprise because she's going to use the Christmas parade and Meridian as a chance to accept canned foods and socks and things like that for the elderly this time of year.
Virginia Nelson, DO – Nelson Center for Women says "So, every year we have a big community need for canned goods, things for the elderly; like toiletries, food items, Socks to keep warm, jackets, and also toys for kids."
Dr. Virginia Nelson runs the Nelson Center for Women.. She says the need is always there, and may be even greater this year. Dr Nelson is excited that she, and her team can do their part in blessing others this Christmas.
Dr. Nelson says "I thought it would be a great idea to do this since we're going to have a lot of kids down at the parade, and we can use that opportunity to see if people would give gifts to our float. So we're going to collect canned goods for Wesley House socks, and toiletries for whatever nursing home in the area that needs it.
The Nelson Center is asking you to bring those kinds of gifts to the Meridian Parade this weekend. You might also receive a special gift.
Dr. Nelson says "We think it would be a great example to have kids witness giving to somebody else. Because that really is the Christmas spirit. And in exchange for that, we're going to give away a Santa Clause hat, if you will bring canned goods."
Dr. Nelson’s staff knows firsthand what a generous woman she is. After donations dropped during the pandemic, they are happy to do their part now, and have a leader who’s role in the community is a positive one.
Tiffany Griffith- receptionist says "She's great. She always has a helping hand.Has a huge heart. Wants to help everybody and anybody in need."
Peppy Howse- Medical Assistant says "I’ve been with Dr. Nelson, right at two years now, and she is amazing. She goes above and beyond to help not only us ,her patients, but the whole entire community of Meridian."
Turkessa Powe- Lab Tech says "I’m a lab tech here at the Nelson Center for Women. And I think Dr. Nelson is a great doctor. She's overall a great person. She likes to help others. She loves her patients and she loves her employees. And overall, she's a great person to work for."
The 12 days of Christmas parade in Meridian, where your donations will be accepted, is scheduled to begin at 5 pm on Saturday,
